Beginning Japanese I

Overview

Description

This class is for students who have had little or no exposure to the Japanese language. We begin by teaching the fundamentals of reading and writing Hiragana and move on to Katakana, Kanji, grammar, vocabulary, and language usage. In addition to weekly lessons and in-class activities, each class begins with a "Cultural Tidbit" which is used to help increase the student's awareness of Japan and Japanese culture by showing how closely language is tied to culture.

Benchmark

By the end of this class, students will have covered enough Japanese to be able to say sentences like, "Mr. Suzuki will go with Mr. Smith of ABC Foods to Ginza by train on July 23rd."
